9 - Quay St: friendlier on foot

Making Quay Street better for pedestrians and preserving and enhancing views from the city to the water will create a place where pedestrians feel secure and comfortable and will break down the barriers between the city and the sea.

Quay Street is at the “interface” between the city centre and waterfront.
 

It will exhibit high quality urban design, clean streets and a safe and active night-time atmosphere, as a continuation of lower Queen Street and the Britomart precinct laneways.
 

An improved pedestrian experience along the port edge in short term is proposed and could provide for enhanced views of, and beyond, the working port.
