The development of new fun places will attract many more families and visitors young and old, to the waterfront for recreation and enjoyment.
Community family fun is at the heart of many of the proposals which include new parks and places to picnic and sail, fishing platforms, lookouts, safe walkways, cultural facilities and places to eat, shop and watch the world go by.
The wide range of proposals aim to attract Aucklanders from all over the region, from Rodney and Franklin, from the northern, southern, eastern and western suburbs, to enjoy themselves in the heart of the city and on the water’s edge. The aim is that these are places that the community use and call their own.
Priority will be placed on developing the proposals, such as the waterfront pedestrian walkway and cycleway, parks and ferry services, which will have the greatest public benefits.
The twenty new places include: Harbour Bridge Park, St Mary’s Bay beach, international marine village, marina expansion, Wynyard Point Headland Park, a signature public building (maybe a cultural, arts, entertainment or research facility), Daldy and Central Parks, Karanga Plaza and tidal steps, Waitemata Plaza, Te Wero Island, Queens Wharf open space, Queens Wharf salt water pool, TEAL headland park and beach, waterfront pedestrian walkway and cycleway, fishing platforms, and a variety of new events.
