Message from the CE

With six months to go until Auckland welcomes visitors to the Rugby World Cup 2011, the redevelopment of the Wynyard Quarter and Queens Wharf is advancing now at real pace. Tenants have been signed up for North Wharf, rain gardens and paving are nearing completion along Jellicoe Street, tram tracks are progressing along Halsey Street and the first sections of Wynyard Crossing have been lifted in to place ready to link Te Wero Island with Gateway Plaza. The curved roof of the new Viaduct Events Centre on the Halsey Street extension punctuates the waterfront sky line along with the concrete silos overlooking Westhaven Marina.
Our waterfront is changing, and in a few months’ time will be something we can enjoy on a daily basis, much more than ever before.

Queens Wharf redevelopment underway

The redevelopment of Queens Wharf, in the heart of Auckland city, is underway. Jointly owned by Waterfront Auckland and the NZ Government, Queens Wharf is one of four ‘live sites’ established across Auckland during the Rugby World Cup 2011. The wharf will also be a fanzone and festival site with entertainment and activities fun by ATEED free of charge every day during the 45-day tournament from 9 September 2011.
Waterfront Auckland is responsible for establishing the infrastructure on Queens Wharf, including the repair of Shed 10 and the installation of the ‘Cloud’ structure. Additional works include wharf and surface repairs, installation of services (power, water, wastewater, and communications), landscaping, lighting and an improved Quay Street entrance.
